I am the Light of the world.
John 8:12

I’ve never experienced being out on the ocean in a storm trying to make it safely to shore, but I’ve heard that it can be quite dangerous.  The safety and hope of seeing the lighthouse would give direction and peace.   I don’t know about you, but living in this world is sometimes like living in a storm.  We see uncertainty in so many areas of life.  Yet, one thing remains like a “lighthouse” shining brightly to show us the way.  It is the Message of Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world.  God has made it clear in His Word that if we trust Him, He will direct our path.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not to your own understanding.  In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your path.  Proverbs 3:5-6

Throughout the years we have used the art to share this glorious Message and we have found some surprising discoveries along the way.  I remember the first time we exhibited the original painting of “The Light in the Storm” at the Great Passion Play in Eureka Springs, Arkansas.  A young family was entering the gallery and a little girl around 6 years old was looking at the painting.  I overheard her say to her mother, “Mom, what does Jesus have to do with a lighthouse?”  The mother replied that it probably had something to do with Jesus being the Light of the World.  The little girl then said, “Oh, I guess that’s why He is there.”  The parents then watched as the little girl pointed out Jesus to them in the painting.  They had not seen the hidden image and were quite surprised that their little girl had.  Then, she went to the next painting and before they had a chance to see the “hidden picture” she, like a little tour guide, pointed it out to them.  I smiled as I watched her go from painting to painting, telling her folks about Jesus.    So, what did I discover?  I found that little children are quick to see more than we adults see and they love to share what they have discovered with others.   Oh, that we all would have the joy of seeing the “unseen” and sharing Jesus with those around us.
